Finding Your Passion in Unlikely Places and People

Finding your Passion

The world is such a crazy place right now, people are occupied with gas prices and wondering if the covid-19 pandemic will ever cease. As I was in lockdown all I could think about was my future. I spent hours researching schools, majors, places to live, and jobs I could have. I feel like that is what got me through all of this was the hope things would go back to normal one day and I could accomplish my goals.

I found a lot of passions during the pandemic. I knew I had to do something, (safe and with a mask of course) I started doing photography which I love. I started my own very small business and fell in love with taking photos for my friends and just taking photos in general.

My photography career started back in 2019 I went on a frantic spree to buy a new computer and found myself in a pawn shop of all places. I pawned my Wii and my tablet just to get an outdated canon camera. I kept my camera in a bag on my shelf for quite a while. Until I broke it out in May 2020. It started slow, I would occasionally take pictures of my father’s garden. Gladly exploring the flowers and plants provided easily to me in my own back yard but I wanted more.

During the pandemic around summer 2020 my family and I, went to the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens because we wanted to get outside, and get away from our stuffy house. It is there I started taking pictures of plants, water, and flowers. I scoured every inch of the gardens trying to find good nature photos, which I did.

Taking pictures of flowers was intriguing but I wanted the next step. One day I posted on Facebook jokingly that, “I needed models other than flowers” and I got a great response. I had a great group of friends who wanted to be models and from their I started photo shoots. I loved it and still do. I love taking portraits because I can really see the idea of a person and got to work with different concepts other than plant life. I am still so grateful my friends helped me out in both our time of need. Everyone showed up masked and ready to go and I got a fantastic portfolio of pictures.

I find it ironic that I brought something to life in a time where people were losing hope. I am glad I could provide services and enjoyment in this time. It even gave me a lot to do while sitting in my house waiting for the pandemic to pass. I know these few years have been hard but I am glad I found my passion in the most unlikely of places and hope to carry that passion on, when we can finally see each other’s smiles in person again.

College Incarcerated: How college in Prison helps prevent recidivism.

I recently watched: “College Behind Bars”. A show on Netflix created by Ken Burns. The show is about a select group of people in prison getting their associate's degree and bachelor’s degree while still incarcerated and carrying out their sentence. These individuals are accepted into New York State’s Bard liberal arts college. The program is called B.P.I. or Bard Prison Initiative. In this program prisoners can graduate with an associate's degree and then choose if they would continue to receive a bachelors while in prison. Although most education programs were disbanded in 1994 due to the passing of the Clinton Crime Bill. colleges now can privately fund education in prison which is what colleges such as Adams State University are currently doing. In the show College behind bars, the college providing private funds is Bard college located in   Annandale-on-Hudson,  New York .  I have watched the show and can see the change in the inmates who are receiving education. HOW I GOT HERE PART TWO MY TIME AT LCCC

How I got here part two.   I walked through the doors of LCCC in the pathfinders building on my first day. I didn’t know what to expect or better yet who to expect. I thought I would run into some old foes or worse new foes. I was 10 minutes late to class which is never like me I ran to my first class hoping I wouldn’t get yelled at for my tardiness. I had college success which was a class explaining the ins and outs of college mainly for freshmen and not a 2nd timer like me, but it was mandatory, and I had to go. I ended up liking it a lot, there was a lot of open discussions encouraged by my teacher and I felt like I had a fair amount to say, even though most of what I said I instantly regretted. Not because it was bad just because I’m socially awkward and I say strange things sometimes.  I know I might have said and done some embarrassing things in that class, but I give myself a break knowing the hardships I had just went through the past 10 years and I just needed so...

Coming Home, Wyoming

Coming Home, Wyoming. Disclaimer: I am not against traveling or moving around in fact I encourage everyone to travel and experience the world. I am just talking about my experience moving back to my hometown and what I found out about myself and Wyoming. Nor am I speaking badly on any other states I love everywhere I lived.. Thank you, Annie, I have lived in Wyoming most of my life, but I moved away for a while. I ventured off to the corners of the United States. I first moved to Tallahassee Florida then Orange County California, I then went to Utah, Chicago, then closer to Wyoming I ended up in Colorado. I landed at Denver International Airport feeling like I was home. I always wanted to live in Colorado and Chicago seemed far from home then I would have liked. I first lived in Aurora. With the help of my family, I found a place and another place and another place. I lived in 5 places in Aurora and 5 places in Fort Collins and Loveland. Until one day I sadly...
